EP9: How to Build a Minimalist Activewear Capsule

Most activewear drawers have the same problem. Too many pieces, and still nothing to wear. Leggings bought for one colour of top. A hoodie that only works at the gym. A bright set you wore twice.

A capsule turns that around. Fewer pieces, chosen so that everything goes with everything. You get more outfits from less, and getting dressed for a session takes thirty seconds.

Here's how to build one, using the pieces from our first collection as the example.

The three rules

  1. Pick a small palette and stay in it. Two or three neutrals plus one deeper tone. Every piece should work with every other piece.
  2. Buy for the whole day, not the workout. If a piece only works in the studio, it will spend most of its life in a drawer.
  3. Choose fewer, better pieces. Better fabric and construction means pieces hold their shape and colour long enough to earn their place.

Choose your palette first

Neutrals aren't about being plain. They're about making the maths work. With five tops and three bottoms in one palette, you have fifteen outfits. With five tops and three bottoms that clash, you might have four.

Our collection is built around sand beige, chocolate ganache, deep navy, charcoal and black, with a crisp white tee as the reset button. Pick two or three of these as your base and add one deeper tone.

The capsule: nine pieces

This is a complete activewear capsule for someone who trains three or four times a week and wants to wear their kit beyond the session.

Role Piece Why it earns its place
Training top Halter Neck Flow Long-line with a built-in bra. Works alone for Pilates or yoga, or under a layer
Training bra Balance Sports Bra Two-tone, adjustable straps, works for higher-movement sessions
Leggings Essential Leggings High-waisted, squat-proof, no front seam. Black Beauty or Deep Ocean
Shorts Women's Motion Shorts Mesh panelling for running, hot classes and summer
Everyday tee Reset Tee Crisp white, relaxed fit. Goes over everything
Mid layer Revive Sweatshirt The bridge between training and the rest of the day
Outer layer Recovery Hoodie Warmth and a hood for the commute and cold mornings
Off-duty bottoms Restore Joggers Wide-leg, adjustable hems, smart enough for coffee or travel
Carry Two Tone Tote One bag for kit, laptop and everything in between

Add two or three pairs of find your antidote Essential Socks and a Sweat Towel, and you are done.

What nine pieces gives you

For movement: Halter Neck Flow and Essential Leggings for Pilates or yoga. Balance Sports Bra and Motion Shorts for a run or a hot class.

For travel: Reset Tee, Restore Joggers and Recovery Hoodie. Comfortable for a long flight, presentable when you land.

For work: Revive Sweatshirt over the Reset Tee with Restore Joggers on a relaxed office day or working from home.

For weekends: Recovery Hoodie, Essential Leggings and trainers. Or the full matching hoodie and jogger set, which looks deliberate rather than lazy.

That is well over a dozen distinct looks before you count colour swaps.

The men's version

The same logic works with fewer pieces. A Men's Reset Tee, Motion Shorts, Restore Joggers, Revive Sweatshirt and Recovery Hoodie cover training, travel and weekends. Add The Original Antidote Cap and the tote. We go into more detail in our guide to men's athleisure for work, travel and recovery.

How to build it without starting again

You don't need to clear out your drawer. Start with what you already wear most, then fill gaps.

  • Audit by use, not by love. Which pieces did you wear in the last month? Those tell you your real palette.
  • Fill the layer first. Most capsules are missing a good mid layer. A neutral sweatshirt or hoodie connects everything else.
  • Replace, don't add. When something wears out, replace it with a piece that fits the palette.

Make it last

A capsule only works if each piece keeps its shape. Wash cool, inside out, and air dry. Our activewear care guide explains why, and how to keep hoodies and joggers soft. If you're investing in a heavier layer, read how to choose a premium gym hoodie first.

Quick answers

How many pieces should an activewear capsule have? Between eight and twelve covers most people training three to four times a week.

What colours work best for minimalist activewear? Neutrals that all mix: sand, ganache, navy, charcoal, black and white.

Is a capsule more expensive? Each piece may cost more, but you buy fewer and wear each one more. The cost per wear is usually lower.
